Jo Churlish

Jo Churlish has been the guardian of a variety of animals throughout her life. In 2020, she is celebrating 40 years of working professionally with animals and 21 years of specialising in animal behaviour and training.

Jo is a Tellington TTouch Training practitioner for Companion Animals (P2) and Equines (P1) and an ACE Associate Tutor. She is a Registered Veterinary Nurse, has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling and a degree-level Certificate in Applied Animal Behaviour (both from the University of Southampton), is a qualified Lecturer, a Full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (Jo Churlish 00878), a Scent Instructor for the UK College of Scent Dogs, a registered Animal Training Instructor with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council, and an Examiner for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme awards (all levels).

For the past few years, Jo has loved helping to develop and teach the RSPCA Paws For Change project. This aims at educating young offenders in animal health, welfare, kind training methods, the laws relating to responsible pet ownership, and empathy towards all living beings.

She is also part of the Bedlington Terrier Rescue Foundation behaviour team, and supports the dogs, fosterers, and adopters in the North East of England.

Jo started her own animal behaviour and training business in Durham almost 20 years ago. She teaches a variety of puppy and adult dog training classes (including Scentwork) using only calm, kind, and reward-based methods. She teaches TTouch (for companion animals and for horses) and ACE workshops throughout the UK, and also sees clients on a one-to-one basis for behaviour or training issues. Jo also teaches Pet First Aid courses in various locations.

Jo is married with three grown-up children, and also shares her life with her dogs Clementine and Leonard, and Daisy the cat.
